The future of social media: Are we heading for more fragmentation or consolidation?

Posted
  • Administrators

With changing user preferences and emerging platforms, the social media landscape continues to evolve. Have you joined any new social platforms recently or abandoned longstanding ones? What features would your ideal social platform include? Do you think we'll see more niche communities or fewer, larger platforms in the future?

Featured Replies

I believe that the trend is heading towards more fragmentation especially to the niche sites that are appealing to a particular interest. That way, a platform could be distinguished by its features.

I have abandoned a few social platforms I was active (Pinterest, Reddit) and I have also joined new platforms recently (Threads and Blusky). I thing we will see more social platforms, I do not see any kind of consolidation happening.

I’ve started exploring blusky recently, while some older ones I use less. My ideal platform would have better content discovery and strong community features. I believe we’ll see more niche communities growing, but larger platforms will still dominate.
