A new indie game must work on innovative mechanics for the game, develop a community around it and be open to criticism. Marketing and networking are equally important to make the game known to players. To also become successful as a new indie game developer, you must know how to take calculated risks and be flexible because this is how you can achieve your goals and navigate the challenges in the world of game development.

I would tell new indie developers to take your time and breathe. Deadlines can be stressful for new indie developers, which may cause them to rush things and end up releasing a broken game. Overworking your team will cause issues to arise, whether it's conflicts between team members or people getting burnt out. Also do your research when looking for a good publisher, I've heard of indie games being stuck in limbo because their publisher basically ghosted them.
